Editor’s note: The following is a speech given by 2008 Kentridge High School graduate Todd Lane at the Rotary Club of Kent spring scholarship banquet based on the prompt, “My hopes for the future.” Lane was one of eight district students to be presented with a $3,000 scholarship at the event.
It’s more than 17,000 miles from Kent to the center of the upcoming Olympic games in Beijing, China.
But a community health initiative is attempting to make that distance seem a lot shorter for locals here.
Between now and the games’ opening ceremony Aug. 8, organizers of the Kent4Health initiative are inviting walkers, cyclists and runners to log their miles on a Web site, to have Kent go the distance to the games.
Calendars are published Wednesdays and Saturdays on a space-available basis. Items for the Wednesday edition must be submitted by noon the previous Thursday. Items for the Saturday edition must be submitted by noon the previous Tuesday.
