Kent Police arrested a Des Moines man Tuesday in connection with an April 8 robbery and stabbing of a Kent motel clerk.

Shannon D. Hill, 37, was arrested for investigation of first-degree attempted robbery, according to a Kent Police media release.

Detectives used several tips from residents to help track down Hill, who was taken into custody outside a Kent store near Pacific Highway South.

The state had issued an arrest warrant for Hill after King County prosecutors on April 30 filed a charge of first-degree attempted robbery against him in connection with the incident against the clerk, a 41-year-old Kent woman. The woman spent two days in the hospital after she sustained stab wounds in the leg and back.

The motel’s video-surveillance cameras recorded the entire incident. The video included a shot of the man’s face before he put his bandana back on. The clerk had pulled off the bandana during a struggle after her assailant demanded cash and brandished a large, butcher-style knife. The motel is in the 1700 block of West Meeker Street.

Police received several tips from people who saw the videotape of the incident on Seattle television stations.

Hill is being held without bail at the Regional Justice Center in Kent. As of Wednesday, an arraignment date had yet to be scheduled.

“This was a serious and important case involving a violent suspect,” said Kent Police Chief Steve Strachan in a media release. “Our officers worked tenaciously to get him in custody, and we deeply appreciate the assistance of the media in this positive outcome.”
