5K run and walk, dragon boat races part of the annual festival

Thousands of people filled downtown streets over the weekend for the 50th year of Kent Cornucopia Days.

“Kent Cornucopia Days by the Kent Lions is here,” Kent Mayor Dana Ralph said after opening day on July 14 of the three-day festival. “Our downtown streets are filled with smiles, great food, fun vendors and fabulous performances.”

The free event featured a street fair on downtown streets with more than 200 vendors and 30 food booths and a food court. Dragon boat races were on Lake Meridian. The Grand Parade was Sunday.

A total of 427 registered participants ran or walked in Saturday’s Kent Cornucopia Days 5K run and walk along the Green River.

Nicholas Shepard, 23, of Kent, won the race in 17 minutes, 8 seconds. Allison Gagne, 17, of Renton, had the fastest female time of 19:05.5, which was 12th overall of the 336 race participants.
