Kent-based Theatre Battery seeks performers for ‘Romeo and Juliet’

Auditions set for April 29-30 at Kent Station

Kent-based Theatre Battery has an open call within Kent for performers of all ages to audition for “Romeo and Juliet,” its first classical production.

“Our goal is to cast a group of over 30 performers in the play, including youth, teens, adults and elders,” said Logan Ellis, director of the company, in an April 10 email.

Ellis said the production will include music, dancing, and combat sequences, and casting is open to actors of all experience levels.

“We are specifically searching for local high school students to join us in the leading roles of Juliet, Romeo, Mercutio, Bevolio and Tybalt,” Ellis said.

A group Shakespeare workshop geared toward auditioning high school students is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 28 at Kent Station shopping center, 417 Ramsay Way. Open auditions are from 6 to 10 p.m. on Monday, April 29 and Tuesday, April 30.

The production is open to auditions for non-union actors, community members, and students and the base stipend for participation is $400, with additional stipends available for commuting actors.

To create a full experience of this play’s world on stage, the company is building an ensemble of over 30 performers that will include professional actors, community members, musicians, dancers and students.

Actors will be considered for roles regardless of gender, sex, race, ethnicity, and/or disability, and the group is seeking individuals of all experience levels, ages 5 to 100. In-person auditions may be recorded for use by the casting team. Remote auditions via tape will also be accepted.

Rehearsals will take place evenings and weekends in August, with performances scheduled to run Friday, Saturday, and Sundays from September 1-22. Rehearsal attendance will be flexible for ensemble roles. All rehearsals and performances will take place at Kent Station.
