Ticket jaywalkers on busy road

Kent Police need to start ticketing those pedestrians running across Kent Kangley Road trying get to and from the lake without using the crosswalk.

I realize it is a good distance to walk in order to use the crosswalk legally, but a person’s life is worth the extra steps.

Many pedestrians cross at the top of a small hill. With the speed limit at 45 mph and limited vision at the crest of the hill, drivers have little time to adjust to the poor judgement of pedestrians, some dragging small children and toddlers with them.

It’s not a matter of if a fatality will happen, it’s a matter of when.

The city of Kent could help out by adding guardrails along the sidewalk preventing pedestrians from crossing at the crest of the hill or finding a safe way to create a bridge crossing much like the one created for East Hill Elementary.

This has been such a big problem for so long. It is time to do something about this hazard before a young innocent child dies.
