The recent death of Mr. George Floyd at the hands of a police officer has fueled outrage. This incident has happened way too often where a black man or black youth has been targeted because of race.
This kind of incident is not something new in our history. The roots started years ago as racism was developed, condoned, and institutionalized. This nation has reacted to racism in an unprecedented way, which has been demonstrated by our citizens filling the streets to say, no more. We, as a board, do not condone racism in any shape or form. We have tried to implement policies to eradicate barriers for all young people to lead to a pathway of success.
We endeavor to look at everything with an equity lens to remove barriers making it possible for “All” students to be educated and follow their individual pathways that will lead to having a full life. We, as a board, are united in our path to continue to be there for our students and their families even if it is not possible at present to do so in person.
We care deeply how this has affected our students, their families, and all our community partners. We still have many vehicles to communicate through and we will continue to use them. Let us know how we can help you. We as a board are your vehicle to have your voices heard. Continue to let us know how we are doing and be involved in this district to make it even better.
We are committed to be a leading district in equity and serving all kids. We strongly believe that even though we feel we are in tough times, we will come out of this a stronger and more perfect union. Through this darkness will shine the dawn. Be well, be safe, and be kind to one another.
To quote the song lyrics of Celine Dion, “Let’s give (all) our kids a world to believe in.”
