Regarding the recent full-time teaching cuts made within the Kent School District: As a teacher in the district, I will most likely not be impacted by the reduction in force.
The most recent school board meeting shared the budget for hiring new recruits across the nation as being $70,000. Why is this budget so high, or existent at all, when they are laying off so many teachers?
Why is the superintendent not taking a pay cut? According to The Spokeman-Review, Calvin Watts is the fourth-highest paid superintendent in the state.
Instead, the students will suffer by having larger class sizes and less staff for intervention.
