In a lodge-style building on Southeast Kent-Kangley Road, the workers inside are doing amazing things for children in our community.
The Children’s Therapy Center provides vital services to special needs children from all walks of life. The center has been helping my daughter regain muscle strength through specialized equipment and therapy.
These types of services do not come cheap. Every dollar counts. That’s why I’m so proud of my coworkers from Boeing – many of whom live in Kent – for pitching in earlier this month to help the center.
As part of our company’s Community Service Day, more than 20 Boeing employees, their friends and family rolled up their sleeves on a Saturday morning and removed all of the winter’s overgrowth. Every time we thought we were finished, someone would spot another area that needed our attention such as leaves hiding under the shrubbery out front.
It wasn’t easy work. But it was better for us to do it for free, rather than have the center spend money on lawn care. The spruced-up center can now direct the resources to help children.
Many of my coworkers who volunteered didn’t know anyone from the center. They just came together, united by the common goal of wanting to help. It goes to show anyone can pitch in. As a parent who has been helped by the center, I can tell you any contribution would be valuable.
