It has been a long and frustrating summer of traffic gridlock, noise, dust and detours for those of us who live on, off or near James Street hill, and it hasn’t been fun for the thousands of daily commuters who rely on James Street to get them up and down the hill and to and from work every week day.
However, the work is almost finished, and we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The digging seems to be over, the dust is clearing, sidewalks are repaired, new asphalt overlay is being applied, lane striping is underway and the street is looking great.
Thanks to the businesses in Kent who paid B&O taxes to fund a major portion of this project. Thanks to the contractors who patiently worked around residents’ needs to come and go from their homes during construction. And many thanks to the flaggers who eagerly and safely helped us get out of and into side streets during the bumper-to-bumper traffic. You gals and guys were awesome.
Finally, thanks to the city of Kent and the Public Works Department for making this project a priority for 2016. Well done, everyone.
