Doesn’t the following salary scale seem a little out of balance?
Washington State Governor: $167,000.
Vice President of the United States: $227,000.
Kent School District Superintendent Dr. Edward Lee Vargas $240,000.00*

At the time of this writing, the Superintendent’s job description could not be found online. We are assuming that it would probably read something like the following. “Job goals: To manage the school system and to provide leadership according to the school district’s vision.”
“Performance responsibilities: Note: At the discretion of the superintendent, he/she may delegate any of the authority and responsibilities of the position. However, the superintendent is not relieved of the final responsibility for actions taken under such delegation.”

Until the press conference, Dr. Vargas had not made an appearance in person, so it must be assumed that he had delegated the authority to someone else. From this author’s viewpoint, the person or persons that have been given the authority to speak in Dr. Vargas’s behalf have not provided “leadership according to the school districts vision”. (See “Job goals” above. )
Dr. Vargas should speak for his office himself and get this strike settled so the kids can get back to school.
On another note, Jim Berrrios, Kent School Board president, voted against the citizens of Kent when he voted in favor of an injunction against the teachers. From this author’s viewpoint this man should not be Kent’s next mayor, as he does not have the interest of the people in mind.
Let’s give the teachers what they need and get the kids back in school.
If you agree with this author please call 253-373-7701 or fax a message at 253-373-7231 and let Dr. Vargas know exactly how you feel.
