I would like to respond to the article by Todd Nuttman in your Dec. 17, 2008 issue of the Kent Reporter.
First, he must have not read the Liberal Democrat agenda for the Second Amendment.
Secondly legal gun owners are not the problem, it is the criminals who are, and no amount of gun control will stop this. The only way is to put criminals in jail for a long time. Judges should not allow plea bargaining etc, and repeat criminals should be dealt with severely.
Third, he says guns are too easy to get. Not if you are a legal gun owner they are not. You have to fill out required paper work, have an NICS registration, etc. Look what has happen with the “war on drugs.” It really has worked, hasn’t it?
Fourth, “automatic weapons” are illegal. Does he mean semi-automatic? I always love the comments about automatic weapons, as it puts fear in everyone. An AK-47 he mentions is not an “automatic weapon,” it is a semi-automatic. He needs to get himself a lot more training and education!
Fifth, kids usually learn safety by playing with toy guns, rifles, etc. They need to be taught the proper way of handling them. Where are the parents? There a classes for young people to properly use a weapon. Just because he doesn’t like them doesn’t make them unsafe. Let him go play basketball.
Our Constitution was not designed to protect criminals; it was written for law-abiding people. Since he doesn’t like the results of some people’s actions he wants everybody to be punished (he should work for the government). He says he is for the Second Amendment, but only if it is written to please his liberal attitude.
I realize he wrote this on the Opinion page, but he needs to keep his opinions to himself unless he gets his facts straight.
