Private schools not immune to bullying

I just want to say thank you to Laura Pierce for her column on bullying ("Cost of bullying? A teenager's life," April 2 Kent Reporter.) We really need to talk more and let kids know it is not right to bully anyone.

I just want to say thank you to Laura Pierce for her column on bullying. We really need to talk more and let kids know it is not right to bully anyone.

My daughter went to a private Christian school, which I thought would be so much better than a public school, and boy was I wrong.

She was bullied daily during school hours and games, bus rides, text messages, calls, e-mails.

When I brought it to the attention of the principal, all he said was “just let it pass.” It never did. In fact, every day it got worse and every call I made to him or meeting, he continued to ignore our cry for help, even when my child was physically touch and bullied. We had witnesses and teachers who wanted to help, but they too were ignored, as we were.

So, after six weeks of the school doing nothing, I pulled my child from the school. I believe every parent should know there is a (state) bullying policy in place that passed in 2004, but private schools do not have to follow the state rules. My daughter went to the same public school from K-6 grade and never had a problem.

I thought by going to a Christian school, she would get a better education, but instead she got the knowledge on how a private school can get away with anything .

This was not what I was paying the school to teach my child.

So please, don’t think that going to a private school is better than a public school. We learn the hard way
