It doesn’t surprise me that the a contingent of the “moral conservatives” that live in Kent has been protesting the debut of Lingerie Football in Kent. I’ve been a citizen of Kent for 25-plus years and am used to having to read what their opinions are. THIS ISN’T THE OPINION OF THE OVERWHELMING MAJORITY OF KENT CITIZENS!
LET THEM PLAY! The Showare Center is privately managed and should stay that way. The main objective is to bring sports/entertainment to Kent that will fill the arena and add to the tax base of the city. The two events will sell out and the businesses immediately in the area will benefit from the spending of the customers. The Lingerie Football games won’t be a strip-club-type atmosphere, R-rated, but more like a PG- or PG-13-rated entertainment.
It’s scary to even think of the Kent City Council getting involved in booking entertainment for the Showare Center. The City Council needs to focus their attention on how to get the City of Kent out of its current budget crisis.
This same group of citizens (and the mayor of Kent at the time) also protested about the renting of Russell Road, some 10 years ago, to the Gay Softball National Tournament. Nothing bad happened from holding that event here. Businesses in the City of Kent made good money by the majority of teams spending there money in Kent for a few days and the city was able to negotiate a new scoreboard for one of the fields! Nothing immoral happened, the people who participated in the tournament had a great time and were good people with no criminal activity.
Moral Majority? More like Moral minority and only if it fits their definition of morals.
For myself, you’ll find me at both events with seats on the 50-yard line and enjoying the entertainment! I’ll also be the one spending money on a nice dinner at a Kent Station Restaurant and also buying some concessions at Showare.
Isn’t that really the main reason why the building was built in the first place?
