Let’s do more to defuse fireworks

I would like to add my voice to others of concerned citizens in protest of the inordinate use of fireworks within our Kent neighborhoods.

I would like to add my voice to others of concerned citizens in protest of the inordinate use of fireworks within our Kent neighborhoods.

Despite efforts, notably of the fire chief in making reminder calls regarding the illegalities of many of the fireworks ignited in Kent, our neighborhoods are still held hostage to those people who flaunt the laws for their so-called enjoyment.

The result is an evening of dread for the negative impact on our property, our pets, and our peace of mind.

The fireworks stand operators and the alcohol industry are the winners in this battle reenactment that could never have been envisioned or endorsed by the founders.

Sadly, I see the voices of the majority of citizens drowned out by the vocal few, in this instance of winking at this law, and others as well.

While the Fourth of July is long past, the attention given to developing a plan for relief should be ongoing. Our neighborhoods in Kent are too densely populated to allow for this nonsense to continue. I exhort the Kent City Council and law enforcement to do more to protect the rights of law-abiding citizens.
