Kent Police need a new home

Here in Kent we have the finest law enforcement agency in Washington.

Here in Kent we have the finest law enforcement agency in Washington. The Kent Police Department proves itself every day of every year for their efforts and effectiveness on the streets of Kent and in its multiple community involvement and engagement roles.

Kent PD is cutting edge in 21st century policing, providing safety in our community and responding in a professional and efficient manner when our safety is threatened. Yet, for all that is 21st century and “cutting edge” about Kent PD, the facilities of our award-winning police department are mid-20th century at best. Adequate in the day for a city of Kent that was some 40,000 residents, the facilities are completely unacceptable for a growing city of 120,000, and the new era of police practices, technology, and threats that have arisen.

Our Kent PD facilities are quite likely the most deplorable in Washington.

Proposition A provides an opportunity to promote safety, improve efficiencies and support our police by funding new construction of the Kent PD headquarters, renovating the jail and making improvements to the firing range for active incident response training.

Vote “yes” on Proposition A when your ballot arrives in mid-October. It’s a vote that says “yes” in support of our Kent PD, the finest in Washington.

– Mike Heinisch, executive director, Kent Youth and Family Services
