In the May 16 issue of the Kent Reporter, two articles on the front page concerned the homeless population in Kent. One had to do with the businesses on First Avenue, and that the police have been doing a nice job of having the homeless moved from there. The other had to do with KentHOPE trying for the fourth time to open a homeless shelter in Kent.
The business community is against any shelter “close” to downtown. They want it somewhere in the industrial area, which is not close to any services and would be hard for them to access.
The homeless will not evaporate from downtown, so why not have a shelter that is convenient for them?
