Dog owners need to be more responsible

Yet again, out for an evening stroll with my dog, and we are accosted by an aggressive dog. This time, I was able to make enough noise and show more aggression than the attacking dog, and it went away without bloodshed.

I live in Kentwood, and walk here and in the Cambridge area every day. Several times in the past couple years, we have either been threatened or attacked by loose, aggressive dogs or dogs that have jumped fences or escaped through an open gate. Owners who have their dog on a leash can barely control their own dog.

What is going on with these people who don’t love their dog enough to be a good dog owner?

If you need to put a “beware of dog” sign in your yard, what is that telling me? You cannot control your pet. If you let your dog run loose in the neighborhood, you do not care about the safety of your pet.

It is a sad time when one does not feel safe walking in your own neighborhood that you have lived in for over 25 years.
