District and teachers’ union: Start acting like educated people

To preface my comment let me say that I have lived and supported the Kent schools since 1964. I have raised three children in the Kent schools, and my first wife worked in the Kent schools for a number of years.

I do not understand the logic nor education behind the Kent school administration and Kent school teachers’ contract impass.

The economy today is hurting us all, unemployment, housing prices, declining tax bases, to mention a few. It’s evident neither the Kent School Administration or Kent Teachers Association understand that now is the time to economize and work together.

Just because there is money in the savings account doesn’t mean it has to be spent. Class sizes have been in the 30-plus as far back as I can remember. What we need is a school district (administration and teachers) who can negotiate (to confer regarding a basis of agreement) and work toward the future when good teachers receive better pay and class size really decreases.

Kent administration and teachers association: it’s time to act like responsible educated people and set aside the politics and power tactics and go to work for a better education for our kids!
