Three months after the disaster that was the Fourth of July and the City Council has still done nothing.
At a recent Public Safety meeting, this was a topic and the response was mostly concerns about statistics and if it were Renton, which bans fireworks.
Note to the council: we don’t care about statistics, we know what’s happening in our neighborhoods and we don’t live in Renton. If the council can’t drag itself into the 21st century on this, then they should let us vote on it.
Also, the city attorney stated it takes a year to enforce a ban, which means the council has once again dropped the ball on this matter. We demand to feel safe in our homes and neighborhoods 365 days a year.
The ShoWare Center is bleeding money. They want to raise our garbage rates and add more taxes but cannot fathom letting in recreational marijuana shops or production into Kent. The Reporter stated a production startup wanted to use a warehouse and hire up to 40 people. That’s 40 people eating lunch in Kent, buying gas, groceries, etc.
We have a councilmember having a hissy fit about the mention of a moment of silence regarding racial violence elsewhere.
The council is out of touch with its constituents. With all of this going on, I have yet to hear a response from any of the councilmembers here in the Reporter to these or other issues.
Personally, I will vote and encourage my neighbors to vote out all incumbent members until they start heeding the voice of the community.
