Barringer is the better choice

With Mark Hargrove, you have to check the fine print.

With Mark Hargrove, you have to check the fine print.

Many voters rightly look to the endorsements that a candidate has received in order to make a well-informed choice. It is disappointing to discover, therefore, that just one week before election day, Mark Hargrove’s “endorsements” page on his campaign website contains the tiny note, “These are some of the groups who endorsed me in 2012.”

Overlooking this disclaimer, one might assume that Mr. Hargrove has the support of newspapers that have not yet endorsed in this race yet at all this year, and of organizations that have, in fact, changed their position for 2014. If anyone is actually pleased with Mr. Hargrove’s performance in office in the last two years, we just don’t know.

The people of the 47th District deserve better from their elected representatives.

Fortunately, we have a clearly better choice this year. Chris Barringer has been endorsed – this year – by a wide and growing bipartisan list of civic leaders and organizations, including the mayors of Renton, Kent and Covington and most of the area’s City Council members.

He has been rated “Very Good” by the Municipal League and is “Endorsed Qualified” by the Auburn Area Chamber of Commerce – in both cases higher than Mr. Hargrove’s current ratings.

I support Chris Barringer for state Representative because he has the experience, energy and vision our community needs representing us in Olympia. We can count on him to tackle the tough issues with integrity and a collaborative spirit, and to always show respect for the voters who elected him. I encourage my neighbors to check out their choices carefully this election season.
