Wrestling: Kent-Meridian sends eight to state

Royals took second in the district tournament at Todd Beamer.

Kent-Meridian finished a strong 2023-24 season with an even better postseason.

The Royals competed at the 3A Region 3 Tournament at Todd Beamer High School on Feb. 10. Kent-Meridian finished in second place behind Lincoln and in front of Silas high schools.

Kent-Meridian is sending eight wrestlers to the state tournament. At distrticts, the Royals had just one bracket winner (Farzai Karimi), and five placers inside the top three across five different weight classes: Elyas Karimi (3rd, 106), Mousa Sudan (3rd, 113), Adonai Garza (2nd, 132), Raul Morales (2nd, 157) and Jessie Neff (3rd, 165).

Aydin Nuraddinov (144) and Jackson Esemann (157) both took fourth place.

Kentlake is just sending a single wrestler, Porter Smith (120), who placed third in his weight division.
