Easily defeats rest of field with throw of 153-9

Kentridge High School senior Saydi Orange took first place in the javelin at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships.

Orange, the only winner at the state meet from a Kent school, placed first with a throw of 153 feet, 9 inches on Friday, May 27 at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma. Her distances in order were 136-10, 120-06, 137-08, 135-07, 153-09 and 145-01. Hanford’s Katelynn Gelston placed second at 132-09.

Orange plans to continue her track and field career at the University of Washington, where she plans to study nursing according to the Kentridge Chargers Facebook page. Orange entered the meet as the top-ranked javelin thrower in the state this season and the third best mark in the nation at 157-0, which she posted at the 4A West Central/Southwest bi-district championships.
