Kentwood High enters state fastpitch tournament as top seed

Conquerors record 20-0; play May 27-28 in Spokane

Kentwood High School has a 20-0 record and is the top-seeded team in the Class 4A state fastpitch softball tournament May 27-28 at Merkel Sports Complex in Spokane.

The Conquerors will seek their first title since 1985. They have made eight trips to state, the most recent in 2018 when they didn’t place.

Kentwood opens against 16th-seeded Hanford at noon Friday, May 27. The other top seeds include No. 2 Jackson, No. 3 Skyview, No. 4 Puyallup and No. 5 Skyline.

Kentwood won the NPSL title and the district tournament. The Conquerors have outscored their opponents 175-22.

Sophomore pitcher Sarah Wright leads Kentwood with a .500 batting average and an ERA of 0.30, according to MaxPreps.com. She also has 26 RBIs, 24 runs and six home runs.

Senior outfielder Lauren Rivera is batting .485 with 26 runs. Junior third baseman Sarah Rothenberger is batting .444 with 27 RBIs, 25 runs and six home runs.

Wright had a huge game as Kentwood beat Skyview 6-0 in the Class 4A West Central/Southwest bi-district championship game. She threw a no-hitter with 18 strikeouts, hit two home runs and batted in five.
