Star Lake Park-and-Ride lot in Kent to close March 22

Lot will become parking garage for new Link light rail station

The Star Lake Park-and-Ride lot at South 272nd Street and Interstate 5 in Kent will close permanently on Sunday, March 22, to make way for construction of a new Link light rail station on the site as part of the Federal Way Link Extension project.

After the Star Lake Park-and-Ride lot closes, King County Metro bus routes 183 and 190 will no longer serve the lot. Route 190 will continue serving the Star Lake freeway bus stops located on the I-5 northbound on-ramp and the southbound off-ramp at South 272nd Street. Service to all other bus stops in the area will not change.

Commuters who regularly use the Star Lake Park-and-Ride lot should use the Redondo Heights Park-and-Ride lot, less than a mile southwest, at 27454 Pacific Highway S. Commuters can take Metro Route 190 from Redondo Heights to reach the Star Lake freeway stops on I-5 or take the RapidRide A line to catch Link light rail at Angle Lake Station in SeaTac or bus connections at Tukwila International Boulevard Station.

A new 1,100-space parking garage will replace the existing Star Lake surface lot. Roads will be widened to improve station access and build a pedestrian and bicycle path to the station plaza. Once work on the new station, parking garage and access improvements is completed, bus service will resume in the area of the station.

Sound Transit initially announced the park and ride closure in February.

The 7.8-mile Federal Way Link Extension, from SeaTac through Kent to Federal Way, is scheduled to open for service in 2024.
