A 41-year-old Kent man will not face charges from King County prosecutors in connection with his vehicle reportedly hitting a Kent woman Oct. 27 as she tried to cross the Benson Highway to catch a bus.

Narmada Timsina, 22, was hit as she tried to cross the road at about 5:09 a.m. Oct. 27 in the 22400 block of the Benson Highway, also known as 108th Avenue Southeast. Timsina remained in fair condition Wednesday at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, a nursing supervisor said.

There are no crosswalks where the woman crossed the street and it was extremely dark at the time of the accident, said Trooper Dan McDonald, spokesman for the Washington State Patrol.

Initial reports indicated the driver did not stop after his vehicle reportedly struck the woman, but detectives learned later the man did stop.

“He stopped and then left because of a language barrier,” McDonald said. “He later called police. He came forward in a reasonable manner so prosecutors decided they did not have enough to charge him with hit-and-run.”

McDonald said it had been harder to get details about the accident because neither Timsina nor the driver of the car that reportedly struck her speaks English.

Troopers responded to the accident and found Timsina lying in the middle of the northbound lanes. The woman tried crossing the five-lane highway from the west to the east when she was hit in the northbound lanes.

The woman was knocked an estimated 150 to 200 feet.
