The Washington State Patrol arrested a 54-year-old Snohomish man for investigation of felony hit and run after he reportedly hit and killed a 16-year-old motorcyclist at about 3:53 a.m. Friday, Oct. 16 along southbound Interstate 405 in Tukwila.
The man was driving a 2006 Chevy Express van southbound on I-405 near Highway 167 when he reportedly ran into the back of the motorcycle, wedging it into the bumper of the van, according to the State Patrol. The van driver continued and exited at the I-5 southbound ramp, where the motorcyclist fell off into the roadway.
Jonah L. Espinosa, 16, was the driver of the motorcycle, according to the State Patrol, which did not list a hometown for the teen but said next of kin were notified by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office. Espinosa died at the scene.
The van driver kept going for before pulling over near South 188th Street and calling 911. Troopers took the man into custody. He was not injured in the collision. Troopers noted he drove about 3 miles after the crash before stopping.
No alcohol or drugs were involved in the crash, according to the State Patrol.
