Kent Police want the public’s help to find the driver of a Ford Explorer who reportedly drove over a 35-year-old Kent man and seriously injured him during a hit-and-run incident.

The incident was reported at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday at the parking lot of the Cloud 9 bar, 806 Central Ave. S., just south of downtown.

Witnesses described the driver of the vehicle as a white or Hispanic man about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a thin build and a short, dark goatee, according to a Kent Police media release. The man’s first name might be “Lance.”

The man drove what is believed to be a 1992 to 1995 dark-colored, two-door Ford Explorer sports utility vehicle.

“This was an altercation in a bar parking lot that got out of hand when the (one man) chose to use a two-ton SUV as a weapon,” said Kent Police Chief Steve Strachan in a media release. “Someone knows who this person is and we hope they will help us make an arrest.”

As of Tuesday, police were still trying to determine the circumstances that led to the incident between the two men at the parking lot.

Witnesses told police that the driver drove over another man. The man sustained serious injuries to his spine and pelvis. Police reports indicate that the man was struck intentionally by the driver of the vehicle.

Paramedics transported the injured man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he was reported in serious condition on Monday, according to police. The man had been in critical condition his first two days in the hospital.

A middle passenger-side window of the Ford Explorer was broken out during the incident, according to witnesses. The driver might have recently tried to repair the window or called a repair shop to fix it.
