Kent Police arrest man for reportedly running over, killing girlfriend with vehicle

Dispute early Thursday morning between Renton couple on East Hill street

Kent Police arrested a 23-year-old Renton man early Thursday for allegedly using his vehicle to run over and kill his 23-year-old girlfriend, also of Renton, in the 24700 block of 102nd Place on the East Hill.

Officers responded at about 3:42 a.m. to several 911 calls reporting gunfire and an altercation in the roadway where a woman was struck with a vehicle, according to a Kent Police Facebook post.

A witness told police that he watched the couple argue outside their vehicle then saw the man re-enter the vehicle and use it to run over the woman. The man then dragged the woman off the street and placed her into the vehicle with the intent to drive away.

The witness attempted to confront the driver, who refused to stop, so the witness fired two bullets into the vehicle’s tires to disable it, but the man drove off with the woman in the car.

Officers flooded the area to search for the suspect vehicle and the woman. At about 4 a.m., two Kent officers located the suspect about a mile from the incident on foot in the area of Southeast 264th Street and 104th Avenue Southeast, according to police. Officers took him into custody without incident. He told officers the woman was his girlfriend.

Police found the suspect’s vehicle, with the woman inside, a few minutes later and a short distance from where they located the suspect. Officers began CPR and other life-saving measures, but the woman did not survive.

The King County Medical Examiner’s Office has not yet released the name of the woman.

Detectives anticipate turning the case over soon to the King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to file charges against the Renton man.
