A Kent man was shot and killed at about 9:43 p.m. Thursday in the 10900 block of Southeast 256th Street on the East Hill.

Kent Police responded to the report of a shooting and found a man lying on Southeast 256th Street with a gunshot wound, said Kent Police Lt. John Pagel. Paramedics transported the man to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where he later died.

As of Friday, police and the King County Medical Examiner’s Office had not yet released the man’s age or name.

Police are interviewing witnesses to the shooting in an effort to track down the shooter.

“We know one shot was fired and that it was an altercation between four people who all knew each other,” said Kent Police Chief Steve Strachan in a phone interview late Friday afternoon. “They were all adults.”

Strachan said the shooting did not appear to be related to any gang activity.

“Detectives are out there following up leads,” Pagel said. “The investigation is still in the infancy stage. There is some information we want to keep close to the vest. But there are leads we are investigating.”

Anyone with information about the shooting can call the Kent Police at 253-856-5800.
