Thirteen Kent-based Puget Sound Fire recruit firefighters recently graduated from the South King County Fire Training Consortium recruit academy number 17.
A total of 57 recruit firefighters graduated from 10 King County fire departments. More than 700 family members, friends and firefighters attended the graduation Jan. 19 at the River of Life Fellowship Church in Kent, according to Puget Sound Fire.
Fire Chief Brian Carson delivered a message and a video of the recruits during their 21-week fire academy was shown. Each firefighter received their badges, which were pinned on by loved ones.
The 13 new firefighters for Puget Sound Fire are:
Ethan Correa, Michael de la Torre, Sarah Hiegel, Ethan Keyser, Chancellor Konig, Joanna McKittrick, Aaron Mochizuki, Carlos Montemayor, Fiona Morgan, Levi Nichols, Valeria Pinos Aguirre, Ridge Quitoriano and Colton Richards.
Keyser was one of five firefighters selected to the Chief’s company. The members of the Chief’s company have demonstrated exemplary the 4 pillars of the academy. The 4 pillars are attitude, effort, performance and teamwork. The Chief’s company members are selected by the recruit academy instructors.
Puget Sound Fire is a partner in a 12-department training consortium that includes Renton Regional Fire Authority, Fire District 20 (Skyway), Fire District 2 (Burien/Normandy Park/North Highline), Valley Regional Fire Authority, Fire District 28 (Enumclaw), Vashon Island Fire and Rescue, King County International Airport/Boeing Field ARFF Division, Mountain View Fire and Rescue, Eastside Fire and Rescue, Snoqualmie Fire Department and South King Fire and Rescue. These participating departments have combined training resources to reduce costs by eliminating redundancy.
