Assault
Kent Police shot two women with Taser guns to stop a fight between them at 1:30 a.m. June 23 outside a Kent gas station in the 1200 block of North Central Avenue.
Police arrested each woman for investigation of fourth-degree assault and the failure to disperse, according to the police report.
At least six women were involved in the fight outside the service station when officers arrived. The officers told the women to leave the area. Four women left, but two reportedly kept fighting.
One woman had ahold of the other woman’s hair as she punched the woman, who slapped and punched back. One woman sustained a broken tooth.
Both women told police they acted in self-defense. They explained they were fighting over a relationship with the same man. The disagreement started earlier in the night when they spotted each other at a Kent bar in the 300 block of Washington Avenue South.
Security from the bar and police broke up a fight in the bar parking lot that reportedly involved the same women who showed up later at the gas station.
Drugs
Three men were arrested for investigation of marijuana possession after officers pulled them over in a black Volkswagen sedan at about 7:30 p.m. June 25 near the intersection of 116th Avenue Southeast and Kent-Kangley Road.
Police received a report of a possible car prowl at a parking lot in the 12900 block of Kent-Kangley Road. Officers received from a witness a description of a black Volkswagen GTI leaving the parking lot.
When officers pulled the vehicle over, the driver fled the car. A police dog found the man in bushes near the car.
Officers arrested the driver and two passengers for the marijuana charge. A police dog reportedly helped officers find plastic bags with marijuana inside the car. One bag tested positive for 27.3 grams of marijuana. The other bag had 3.3 grams of the substance.
Arson
Someone reportedly set fire to wooden playground equipment about 3 a.m. June 26 at a neighborhood in the 15400 block of Southeast 272nd Avenue.
A neighbor called police when he saw flames shooting several feet into the air, according to the police report. The man thought he saw two teenagers running from the playground.
The Kent Fire Department put out the smoldering wood. Investigators found pages from a book and a cigarette lighter at the scene.
Police closed the case because of a lack of suspect information.
Assault
A woman reportedly used her purse to hit her boyfriend in the face at about 11:30 a.m. June 26 as the couple walked eastbound on Kent-Kangley Road near 116th Avenue Southeast.
Police arrested the woman for investigation of fourth-degree assault. The man sustained a red mark on his forehead and had his glasses broken, according to reports.
The woman told officers that she and her boyfriend had an argument because she didn’t want to drive him where he wanted to go. She said she became mad at her boyfriend and swung her purse at his face.
Malicious mischief
Reportedly upset that his mother wanted to evict him, a man shattered two flower pots at about 5:30 p.m. June 23 outside of an mobile home in the 800 block of Central Avenue South.
Police arrested him for investigation of malicious mischief. The mother told officers that she had a heated argument with her son after she evicted him from the home.
The man had left the mobile home when police initially arrived to respond to the call from the mother. When he returned to the home later on June 23, police came back and arrested him.
