Matt Williams: A cut above the rest for judge

Most voters are completely stumped when it comes to voting for judges. Unless you appear in court every day or have had a personal experience with a judge, you have no idea who to vote for. However, this time, the voters in the Southeast part of King County have a clear choice. Matt Williams is simply a cut above the rest.

Kauffman deserves to be re-elected to state senate

As citizens consider voting in a brand new crop of state legislators, mainly because of their dissatisfaction with the current crop's performance, I really hope they don?t throw out the baby with the bath water. Sen. Claudia Kauffman, who is just completing her first term in Olympia, thoroughly deserves re-election.

Vote for I-1098 to support education, health care

As a long time supporter of the Kent School District, I am tired of seeing the cuts in education, the large class sizes and programs that are being cut such as 5th grade band and orchestra. It is time for the voters of Washington state to take a stand and vote yes for I-1098 on Nov. 2.

Oil spill should be a red flag

James Kerr’s letter, "Let’s not abandon deep-sea drilling," appearing in your Sept. 3 issue, suggests exactly the response to the Gulf of Mexico oil disaster we don’t need and must not accept.

Punishment should fit crime

The proposed penalty for Mr. Gregory Aurdell Ross is hard to believe. Four years and six months for the needless deaths of Ms. Cormier and Ms. Stenseth is a crime in itself.

Is this the city we live in?

I was at the Farmers Market here in Kent today. I purchased some fruit, ate my lunch, and brought out my henna and made a sign. Henna is paste made from natural oils and extracts and it is used like a cake-maker uses icing to draw designs on the skin. As it dries it dyes the skin brown leaving a beautiful temporary tattoo for about a week.

BP Oil spill hurts sea life, human life

Regarding your oil-spill article on Aug. 20, "Are we any smarter following Gulf Oil Spill: Editor’s Note". Most of our food comes from the sea. If the sea life is contaminated and we humans are contaminated, we are contaminated too.

Important to recognize, acknowledge, religion in politics

It is common to find an overly narrow view of what makes a statement or event “political.” This can be seen in Ross Douthat’s editorial, “Mr. Beck Goes to Washington” (New York Times, Aug. 29, 2010).

B.P. a bad example of oil industry; let’s not abandon deep-water drilling

Let's not inflict needless punishment on the American people with a knee-jerk reaction.

Graffiti woes continue in Kent

Gang members are feeling misrepresented and can’t understand why. As we attract aesthetic beauty into our lives, we work out the dirt, the misunderstood, and we create our homes and yards with a mixture of practicality, beauty and style (developed or undeveloped).

He applauds letter saying Transit a waste of money

I want to thank the Kent Reporter for publishing that great overdue letter on the Sound Transit System:"Sound Transit Rail a massive waste of taxpayers' money." I knew from its inception that it was not a truthful proposal. But it is a great shakedown operation put upon the citizens of these counties.

We should support ShoWare Center

South King County residents and businesses should support the ShoWare Center by attending events there. This remarkable facility, completed in 2009, was jointly envisioned and funded by the Seattle Thunderbird Hockey Team and the city of Kent. With additional funding provided by the Washington State Legislature, this venue provides comprehensive entertainment services for the South Sound area.

The bride in this wedding had a heavenly body

With all the noise about "same-sex" marriages, they should have lived during the Dust Bowl days down in Texas.

Rein in spendaholic Congressional members, including Murray

If we are ever to rein in runaway government spending, the place to start is to put the fat pig called "pork barrel" on a permanent diet. This means retiring the members in Congress who solicit their constituents' votes with promised earmarks, which are then attached to what might otherwise be a justifiable bill.

The Service Station Dealers of America and Allied Trades believes that the passage of the Motor Vehicle Owners’ Right to Repair Act (S 3181/HR 2057) is critical to the long-term survival of a competitive automotive-repair industry.

State laws too lax for murder

Reading another article about the murder of another darling child is heartbreaking. Seeing that the murderer, Joel Zellmer, only got 50 years, is maddening. This progressive state, with its touchy-feelie good laws has no sense at all.

She’s on a mission to raise funds for a local child’s transplant operation

I often glance through the obituary section of the Sunday paper. I enjoy the old photos… the little pieces of written history that follow. The most revealing part of a death notice is the last paragraph, the suggested recipients of donations in lieu of flowers.
