Sigiriya is an ancient rock fortress\nlocated in the northern Matale District near the town of Dambulla. Lion Rock is\nknown as the 8<sup>th<\/sup>&nbsp;Wonder of\nthe World and forms part of Sri Lanka\u2019s \u201cCultural Golden Triangle.\u201d Moreover,\nLion Rock is a UNESCO listed World Heritage Site. The name refers to a site of\narchaelogical and historical significance that is dominated by a massive column\nof rock. King Kasyapa built his palace on the top of this orange tinged rock\nand decorated its sides with colorful frescos. He built a gateway in the shape\nof an enormous lion on a plateau halfway up the side of this rock. The name of\nthis place is derived from this structure \u2013 Sigiriya Lion Rock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/kowloonland.com.hk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/\u56fe\u72472.png\" alt=\"http:\/\/kowloonland.com.hk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Screen-Shot-2017-12-18-at-8.44.20-PM.png\" class=\"wp-image-639\" width=\"479\" height=\"315\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kowloonland.com.hk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Screen-Shot-2017-12-18-at-8.44.20-PM.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">It\u2019s 377 meters in height from the\nGarden Square to the abandoned palace. And it\u2019s a strenuous climb from the rock\nup to the palace under the burning sun. In 933 AD, Polonnaruwa became the capital of\nSri Lanka. Take in Brahmanism sites of the Cholas Period or explore relics in\nthe wonderful Garden City, which were built by King Palakra I and date back to\nthe 12th century. Be sure to check out ruins of the ancient city, a special\nsacrificial altar, a Sri Lankan classic pagoda and the stone Buddha statues\nbuilt along the wall. There are a large number of architectural and cultural relics preserved\nhere, demonstrating the long history of Sri Lanka&#8217;s architectural arts that\ndate back 2,000 years. On our drive to Kandy, you will come across a spice\ngarden where you can discover exotic tropical plants and are taught about their\nvarious health remedies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/kowloonland.com.hk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/\u56fe\u72473.png\" alt=\"http:\/\/kowloonland.com.hk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Screen-Shot-2017-12-18-at-8.57.37-PM.png\" class=\"wp-image-645\" width=\"550\" height=\"365\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/kowloonland.com.hk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/12\/Screen-Shot-2017-12-18-at-8.57.37-PM.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Spending time at a spice garden is a\nfascinating educational experience if you like spices but don&#8217;t often see them\ngrowing wild. So why not take the chance to learn all about plants, herbs and\nspices in this lovely garden? Here you will gain a better understanding of the\nactive ingredients and medicinal properties that plants have to offer and also\npick up some ancient recipes for teas, infusions, creams and oils, which you\ncan later purchase on site. After lunch, you can check in at Earls Regent\nHotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later on, you can set out to the Temple\nof the Tooth, a Buddhist temple located in the city of Kandy.&nbsp;The Temple\nof the Tooth is important to Buddhists as it is home to one of Buddha\u2019s teeth\nand attending an evening puja at the Temple of the Tooth is a must. Every\nevening there is a ceremony during which the tooth is taken out of its case for\ndevout Buddhists and visitors to see. Climbing up the wooden stairs to the\nsecond floor, you can spot flowers offered in front of the Buddha statue, which\nseems to bear believers\u2019 hope for the good. You can also see pious Buddhists\nsitting on the floor and chanting lections. You will have a hard time deciding what to pick! Foodies may enjoy\ndelicious tropical fruits, fragrant curries or roti, a rustic flat bread made\nup of flour and grated coconut and served with spicy onion or chilli paste. Built in 1371 AD, the\nBotanical Garden acted as the Kings&#8217; royal garden. Today, more than 4,000\nplants, either native or imported, can be found in the garden. The tropical\nequatorial sunshine and Mediterranean climate of Kandy make the Botanic Garden\nlook like spring year round. Elephants living here receive kind and careful\ncare from humans.
