AAA Washington recently inducted 10 outstanding school safety patrollers from across the state into the AAA School Safety Patrol Hall of Fame, including Ella Chau, a student at Glenridge Elementary School in Kent.

Students are recognized for their commitment to traffic safety, helping fellow students and exemplary leadership skills.

“Ella works well with any partner to make sure students have a safe place to cross when there is a break in traffic,” said advisor Lorena Long in a June 8 AAA Washington press release. “She stays focused on her patrol duties while on shift so she can help our students and family stay safe as they approach and cross driveways and streets.”

Glenridge Elementary School is at 19405 120th Ave. SE.

Bellevue-based AAA Washington has recognized students for 31 years. The School Safety Patrol program encourages fourth through eighth graders throughout the state to volunteer as crossing guards to keep their fellow classmates safe while getting to and from school.

The program teaches local youth important skills like responsibility, leadership and service, according to AAA Washington. In 2022, more than 11,250 students across 750 schools in Washington participated in the program.

“As we enter the 101st Year of our School Safety Patrol program, we are proud to recognize these 10 outstanding patrollers as the state’s top patrollers,” said Heather Snavely, CEO of AAA Washington. “We honor the hard work, dedication, and leadership skills of all our safety patrollers, who have gone above and beyond to keep their classmates and communities safe.”

The rest of the Hall of Fame class included two students from Spokane and one each from Federal Way, Everett, Oak Harbor, Richland, Seattle, Sedro-Wooley and Shoreline.
