On October 18, the Kent City Council unanimously passed the camping ban on public property by 6-0. While the council voted in favor of the camping ban changes at an October 4 meeting, this vote is final.

The goal of the approved ordinance is to strengthen camping bans on public property in an attempt to clean up homeless encampments across the city. Kent’s city staff proposed this ordinance to remove encampments along the Green River, in city parks and near businesses.

Rather than a 48 hour notice under the previous city code, the change will allow law enforcement officials to remove homeless encampments immediately if located in public areas.
