Three people were killed over the weekend in two separate crashes along Interstate 5 in South King County, one in Tukwila and one in SeaTac.

At about 2:17 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, a 23-year-old Sequim died in a crash on southbound I-5 just north of South 216th Street in SeaTac, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The Sequim man’s vehicle was disabled and blocking lane one when a second vehicle in lane two made an emergency maneuver into lane one to avoid a collision, according to the State Patrol. That vehicle struck the rear of the disabled vehicle.

The Sequim man, who was not wearing a seat belt, died at the scene. The driver of the other vehicle, a 49-year-old Federal Way man, was injured and treated at the scene. He wore a seat belt.

The cause of the crash was a blocked lane of travel, according to the State Patrol.

At about 10:47 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9, a 24-year-old Tacoma man and a 35-year-old Federal Way man were killed while traveling northbound on I-5 near the Southcenter mall in Tukwila, according to the State Patrol.

The vehicle, driven by the Tacoma man, was just south of Southcenter Boulevard in lane one of northbound I-5 when it lost control and rolled across all lanes of traffic coming to rest on the driver’s side in the HOV lane, according to the State Patrol.

A second vehicle, driven by a 59-year-old Seattle man, struck the roof of the vehicle, according to the State Patrol. He was transported to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.

Both men in the other vehicle died at the scene. They each wore seat belts as did the Seattle man.

The State Patrol arrested the Seattle man for investigation of vehicular homicide and reported that drugs or alcohol were involved. What caused the first vehicle to roll remains under investigation.
