Kent fire, police and city leaders were among those on hand to participate in Kent Little League Opening Day festivities.<\/p>\n

Puget Sound Fire Chief Matt Morris, Kent Police Chief Rafael Padilla and Kent City Council President Bill Boyce welcomed Little League players Saturday, April 30 at Ryan Brunner Park, 25636 140th Ave. SE.<\/p>\n

“Our firefighters were able to join in the fun and dropped ‘soft’ baseballs from the ladder truck to the players below,” according to Kent-based Puget Sound Fire. “Have a great season and best of luck to all the players!”<\/p>\n

Kent Little League attracts more than 300 players a year with its divisions for boys and girls ages 4 to 16. Tryouts are in February and March and the season runs in the spring and early summer.<\/p>\n

The baseball divisions are Tee Ball, ages 4-6 coed; Minors A, ages 6-8; Minors AA, ages 8-9; Minors AAA, ages 10-11; Majors, age 12; 50\/70, age 13 (uses a modified field with 50-foot pitching distance and 70-foot basepaths; Juniors, ages 13-14; and Seniors, ages 15-16.<\/p>\n

The softball divisions are Minors B, ages 6-7; Minors A, ages 8-12; Majors, ages 10-12; Juniors, ages 13-14; and Seniors, ages 13-16.<\/p>\n

Kent Little League was established in 1984. It serves the Kent and Covington areas and is part of Little League International and District 10 of Washington State.<\/p>\n

Ryan Brunner Park is named after a 12-year-old Little League player, of Covington, who died in 1994 during a rafting trip along the Wenatchee River.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
