Inspiration comes in many forms, and in the first half of February many of us will be inspired by the Winter Olympics.

When you’re walking your dog in the morning, you may think about the endurance of elite cross-country skiers and feel inspired to walk an extra block. If you’re working with a healthcare team to recover from injury, the stories of Emily Sweeny (back on Team USA after a dangerous luge crash in 2018) or Colby Stevenson (barely survived a car crash and is now ranked No. 2 in slopestyle skiing) may inspire you to keep up with your daily exercises. Or maybe you’d like to stay active in retirement, just like Seattle speed skater Apolo Ohno!

Daisy, the four-month old yellow lab, is using the Olympics as inspiration in her training for Cadence at Kent-Meridian’s Furtissimo Pet Program.

“Daisy is a very active puppy who loves playing fetch and tug-of-war, and loves belly scratches,” says Monica Rangel, Executive Director of Cadence at Kent-Meridian.

Daisy’s work at Cadence at Kent-Meridian includes inspiring residents, just like the Olympians are inspiring her.

“Walking, grooming and feeding an animal keeps us active on a daily basis, and inspires many seniors to maintain their mobility,” Rangel says. “Residents are welcome to bring pets with them when they move-in, but for those who want a little less commitment, Daisy is happy to provide some loving attention.”
