While loading my purchase after shopping recently at a local grocery store, I heard someone approaching from behind.<\/p>\n
When I turned there was a young man of color. As he came closer, I prepared for the inevitable request for a handout, but I was pleasantly surprised by his request. In a soft, polite manner he asked if he could return the shopping cart I was using to the store.<\/p>\n
At first, I did not understand. So he repeated it. I told him yes, and thanked him. He then walked back to the store with the cart.<\/p>\n
It impressed me that this young man would take the time to help this retired, disabled Marine, and do so with such a warm heart.<\/p>\n
As I left the parking lot, I saw this young man, and he waived and smiled as he walked away.<\/p>\n
It dawned on me that in today’s climate of discord, there are people of every age and ethnicity who go out of their way to bring a little help to others.<\/p>\n
I want to thank this young man and his family for being such a shining example to all of us.<\/p>\n
