I applaud Kent Police Chief Ken Thomas for changing something I’m confident he had little support for doing – no longer responding to unverified business alarms.

Honestly, this is a long time coming and something our community should be thankful for. The article pointed out the wasted police time and dollars these alarms have shown to be, time and time again. By police not responding to these alarms, it allows them to concentrate on other problems in the city, which is a better use of their time and a better use of the citizens dollar.

At a time when Kent seems to need more police, this is what the city needs, a better allocation of its resources. So I applaud Chief Thomas and Mayor Suzette Cooke for making this change.

To the business owners who think it’s silly: get with the times and get video, stop wasting police time and my tax dollar.
