{"id":2943,"date":"2009-07-17T11:50:05","date_gmt":"2009-07-17T18:50:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiken.wpengine.com\/news\/washington-unemployment-rate-continues-its-upward-climb\/"},"modified":"2016-10-22T00:20:34","modified_gmt":"2016-10-22T07:20:34","slug":"washington-unemployment-rate-continues-its-upward-climb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/business\/washington-unemployment-rate-continues-its-upward-climb\/","title":{"rendered":"Washington unemployment rate continues its upward climb"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Washington\u2019s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 9.3 percent in June, up from May\u2019s revised rate of 9.1 percent, according to the state Employment Security Department.<\/p>\n<p>The state lost an estimated 10,500 non-agricultural jobs, seasonally adjusted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am confident the steps we are taking at the state and federal levels will help us pull out of the most challenging economic times since the Depression,\u201d Gov. Chris Gregoire said. \u201cWe are beginning to see signs that our economy may be stabilizing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Industries with the most job growth in June included leisure and hospitality, which added 500 jobs, and professional and business services, up 100. Industries with the largest declines were government, which cut 4,600 jobs, retail trade, down 2,100, education and health-care services, down 1,200, and construction, which also cut 1,200 jobs.<\/p>\n<p>Year over year, Washington had 117,800 fewer jobs last month than in June 2008, a 4 percent decrease.
