Like many of you, I am sad and concerned about the rash of dog attacks lately. Everywhere we turn, we hear about another person \u2013 or, God forbid, a child \u2013 attacked by someone\u2019s dog. These attacks are often blamed on \u201cpit bulls,\u201d but instead the blame needs to be shifted to their irresponsible, idiotic owners.<\/p>\n
I own a half-Lab, half pit bull named \u201cAngel.\u201d She is 2 1\/2 years old and would be the last to know she is a dog. She was trained by me to be kind and loving. She has only a few tasks in this world, her first being to hopefully eat what I eat. Secondly, to kiss and lick every visitor who comes to our home. And last but certainly not least is to lick wet legs as we exit the shower. She has other minor duties as well, such as chasing the cats to \u201cplay,\u201d drooling all over any clean clothes, and leaving piles of said drool in secret places for me to find. Like, say my golf shoes. \u201cWhy, thank you, Angel.\u201d<\/p>\n
My point, and I do have one, is that people who own dogs need to take the responsibility of owning dogs. You can train a dog to be anything. If you train your dog to be aggressive and to watch over your stuff you better be able to keep that animal secure. And if he or she attacks someone, be prepared to pay the consequences. Such as jail time. Owning and training an animal to attack is akin to having a loaded firearm left out in the open. Sooner or later it will go off.<\/p>\n
If you own a dog, do everyone a big favor and train it correctly. Also keep your pet secured, so there is no way it can escape. You can also contact the King County Animal Control at 206-296-PETS for donations or help.<\/p>\n
Train your animals, folks. Do it before your negligence ruins a life. And don\u2019t blame the dog. Speaking of which, \u201cAngel\u201d wants to know what my plans are for the remaining pork roast in the refrigerator.
