Kent workers and residents will have a new option for lunch with the opening June 23 of Mario\u2019s Bakery and Cafe, 6627 S. 191st Place, Suite F-104, just west of the West Valley Highway.<\/p>\n

The restaurant\u2019s hours are 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at the West Valley Business Park. For more information, call Mario\u2019s at 425-251-9414.<\/p>\n

Biz seeks clothing<\/b><\/p>\n

Sleep Country USA will accept clothing donations to its New Clothing Drive through July 20. Donors can bring new clothing items for foster children to any Sleep Country location. Locations can be found at www.sleepcountry.com.<\/p>\n

Cruisers to park<\/b><\/p>\n

The Des Moines Activity Center will sponsor a boat trip to Dockton State Park 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. July 29.<\/p>\n

Participants will cruse to the park to enjoy the beach, hiking trails and a picnic for the day. The trip costs $42, which includes escort and boat ride. Bring a sack lunch for food.<\/p>\n

The trip departs 9:30 a.m. from the Des Moines Marina, located at 22307 Dock Ave. S. Call 206-878-1642 for more information.<\/p>\n

Tourney raising funds<\/b><\/p>\n

A golf tournament aimed at raising money for a local child abuse and domestic violence program is looking for players and sponsors for its second annual event.<\/p>\n

The 2008 Scramble for Safe Families Charity Golf Tournament starts 1:30 p.m., August 9 on the Auburn Golf Course, 29630 Green River Rd. S.E. Events include a four-person scramble, a hole-in-one contest, a putting contest, banquet, auction, raffles and awards. .<\/p>\n

The entry fee for players is $360 or a four-person team and $90 or an individual. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Jennifer Beach Foundation.<\/p>\n

Rocketry contest<\/b><\/p>\n

The rocketry team from the Kentridge High School engineering class, including Ryan Harrison, Josiah Swick, Sean Cossano and Wade Piehl, competed in the 2008 Team America Rocketry Challenge in April.<\/p>\n

The contest criteria was that the rocket carry a payload of two raw eggs, go to a height of 750 feet, and return to the earth within 45 seconds. The students worked in conjunction with David Davis, a Boeing engineer, to design and build the rocket.<\/p>\n

The team\u2019s payload of eggs survived the round trip, but they did not meet the height and time requirements to qualify for the national level competition this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
