Seattle Thunderbirds<\/a> goalie Calvin Pickard stopped all 57 shots he saw Friday night to lead the Thunderbirds to a 1-0 victory over the Tri-City Americans at ShoWare Center in Kent.<\/p>\nPickard (2-2-0-0) stopped 25 shots in the first period, 16 shots in the second period, and 16 shots in the third period.<\/p>\n
“My eyes were following the puck pretty well tonight, and when that happens things are going to go well,” Pickard told T-Birds play-by-play voice Thom Beuning in a post game interview.<\/p>\n
Seattle (2-4-0-0) opened the scoring on the power play with one second remaining in the second period when defenseman Steve Chaffin, in an attempt to beat the buzzer, fired a shot from the blue line. Right wing Sena Acolatse was in front of Tri-City goalie Drew Owsley and deflected Chaffin’s shot into the right corner of the net.<\/p>\n
Tri-City (2-2-0-0) outshot the Thunderbirds 16-13 in the second period to give them a 41-18 advantage in total shots.<\/p>\n
The Americans pulled Owsley (2-2-0-0) with one minute remaining in the third period but were unable to convert as Pickard came up with several stellar saves.<\/p>\n
Tri-City outshot Seattle 16-2 in the final period, giving them an overall advantage of 57-20.<\/p>\n
Seattle travels to Spokane to take on the Chiefs 7 p.m. Oct. 10 at Veterans Memorial Coliseum. They are home Oct. 11, to face the Americans at 5:05 p.m. at ShoWare Center.<\/p>\n
