Attend an upcoming Kent event and you can walk away with a piece of history.

The Kent Historical Museum has scheduled its holiday open house for noon to 4 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Bereiter House, 855 E. Smith St. And along with the regular refreshments and vintage music, the museum is unveiling a new DVD: “Kent Parades of the 1940s.”

Compiled from original 8 mm movie footage and arranged with music, the DVD provides a tantalizing glimpse into the post-war days of the growing community.

You can see everything from youngsters pushing strollers to the newly minted veterans of World War II marching through the streets of Kent. There’s even a segment with a performing horse, and plenty of period fashions to observe.

With the holidays in mind, the museum also is selling copies of the DVD for $15 a piece.

For more information about the DVD, or to place an order for one, call the museum at 253-854-4330. To learn more about the museum, visit its Web site at kenthistoricalmuseum.org.
