Kentridge erupted for 15 hits in trouncing Tahoma 19-5 in six innings on Monday to move closer to clinching the South Puget Sound League 4A North Division high school baseball title.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The Chargers (11-3 league, 12-5 overall) lost 7-2 to Mount Rainier on Tuesday. They played Kentwood on Wednesday and Auburn on Thursday. Those games wrap up regular season play.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Against Tahoma, Matt Fleming and Isaiah Terry belted home runs and Joe Wainhouse drove in three runs and scored two more for Kentridge.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
This was the second time Kentridge faced Tahoma. When they first met a month ago, Kentridge barely walked away with a 1-0 win.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The Chargers broke it open with a six-run spree in the third inning and added nine more in the sixth.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Fleming’s 4-for-4 day included a double and four RBI. Terry and Andrew Barrera each drove in three runs. Joel Condreay went 2-for-4 with an RBI and three runs scored.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The Chargers’ offense wasn’t the only thing running smoothly Monday.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Starting pitcher Ryan Schroeder went 4 2\/3 innings to pick up the win. Sound defense did the rest. Wainhouse and Danny Torlai shut the door in relief.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
“That’s what we’ve done up to this point is we’ve played good defense. We don’t walk a ton of guys,” said coach John Flanigan.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Despite the victory, Flanigan wasn’t about to let his team relax. In the SPSL the tables can turn. The division is always competitive.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
“I’ve been at Kentridge since 1997 and there’s been on numerous occasions two teams from the SPSL North (that go deep in the playoffs),” Flanigan said. “It’s a very good baseball league. You gotta bring it every single time out.”<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
Flanigan plans to continue emphasizing aggressive strike zone discipline to his team as it approaches district and possibly regional play.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
“Know your strike zone,” Flanigan said. “If it’s not in the strike zone, let that go. We got guys who can hit down on the count.”<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
