The world famous Harlem Gospel Choir brings the 2013-2014 Kent Spotlight Series to a close on Saturday, April 5 with foot-stomping and hand-clapping blues, jazz and gospel spirituals.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The group performs at 7:30 p.m. at the Kentwood Performing Arts Center, 25800 164th Ave. S.E. in Covington.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
From the heart of Harlem in New York City, the choir travels the world as the ambassadors for African American culture and is loved for its joyous music, according to a city of Kent media release.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
The group has performed for Nelson Mandela and Pope John Paul II. They have shared the stage with such legendary artists as Bono, Sinead O’Connor, Andre Rieu, Lyle Lovett, The Chieftans, Diana Ross and many others. The choir has been featured on a number of TV shows, including Top Chef, The Colbert Report, Good Morning America, The Today Show, Good Day New York, Oprah, and the Early Show. In 2008 the Choir performed for 60,000 people at Yankee Stadium for Pope Benedict XVI.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
