{"id":9634,"date":"2011-12-14T14:54:17","date_gmt":"2011-12-14T22:54:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/spiken.wpengine.com\/news\/karli-jorgensen-appointed-as-kent-municipal-court-judge\/"},"modified":"2016-10-21T20:15:25","modified_gmt":"2016-10-22T03:15:25","slug":"karli-jorgensen-appointed-as-kent-municipal-court-judge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/karli-jorgensen-appointed-as-kent-municipal-court-judge\/","title":{"rendered":"Karli Jorgensen appointed as Kent Municipal Court judge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><p>The Kent City Council Tuesday night unanimously confirmed the appointment of Karli Jorgensen to Kent\u2019s Municipal Court to replace Judge Robert McSeveney.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Kent Mayor Suzette Cooke appointed Jorgensen, who has served as Kent\u2019s primary pro teem judge since 1996.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cMs. Jorgensen has a great wealth of experience on the municipal bench,\u201d Cooke said in a media release. \u201cShe already knows our system, and her dedication to community service makes her a tremendous asset to our city.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p><a title=\"judge\" href=\"http:\/\/www.kentreporter.com\/news\/132479138.html\" target=\"_self\">McSeveney resigned as judge in October<\/a> to accept a position as a federal immigration judge.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Kent Municipal Judge Glenn Phillips congratulated and welcomed Jorgensen to the bench. Kent has two full-time judges.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>\u201cI have known Judge Jorgensen her entire legal career,&#8221; Phillips said. &#8220;She\u2019s smart, experienced and her work ethic is second to none. I look forward to working with her.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Jorgensen holds a law degree from the University of Washington. Since 1985, she has worked in both government and private practice engaging in criminal and civil law.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>She is a member of the Washington State Bar Association, as well as the United States District Court of Western Washington and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p><p>Judge Phillips swore in Jorgensen on Wednesday. Her term expires Dec. 31, 2013.
