The snow showers appear to be over in Kent but record-setting low temperatures are expected for Thursday night and Friday.
“It’s definitely colder than normal,” said Carl Cerniglia, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service, in a Thursday phone interview. “We will see records fall over the next couple of mornings.”
The record low temperature for Feb. 24 at Sea-Tac Airport is 25 degrees.
“It could fall below 25 before midnight tonight,” Cerniglia said. “The record is 22 for Feb. 25 and there is a good likelihood we will drop below 22 and take out that record.”
Forecasters predict a high of 34 and low of 20 for Thursday followed by a high of 32 and low of 21 on Friday. Temperatures are predicted to be 37 and 34 on Saturday.
“It’s unseasonably cold and likely a little breezy,” Cerniglia said. “It will definitely feel like winter.”
An east wind between 14 and 20 mph is predicted for Thursday night. The wind will blow about 10 to 13 mph Friday as it shifts from the east to the north.
The normal temperatures for February are highs of 49 and lows of 36. The high Sunday is expected to be 43 and with a low of 36.
Because the heavy snow showers are over, the National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory rather than a winter storm warning. The winter weather advisory means that snow and icy roads will cause some travel difficulties. Motorists should be prepared for slippery roads and use caution.
