A Kent family of three was without a home, following a house fire early Saturday morning on the 23800 block of 38th Avenue South.<\/p>\n
At 3:53 a.m., firefighters from Kent and South King Fire and Rescue were dispatched to the residential fire, after a neighbor called it in. At the initial dispatch it was reported that smoke and flames were visible from a bedroom window. Crews on their arrival confirmed that fire had \u201cpopped\u201d a bedroom window and was extending to the exterior of the home.<\/p>\n
A woman and two adult children resided at the home. One of the children, a sister, was awakened by the noise and was able to alert her brother of the danger. All three were able to escape to safety with no injuries. According to the Kent Fire Department, Red Cross is assisting the family to meet their immediate needs for shelter, food and clothing.<\/p>\n
The damage estimate for the home is approximately $250,000. There was significant flame damage to the bedroom where the fire started and to the immediately adjacent portions of the house. Smoke damage was substantial and spread throughout the entire home.<\/p>\n
King County Fire Investigators determined that the cause of the fire was combustibles to close to a baseboard heater.<\/p>\n
Kent Fire is reminding residents to keep any flammable material be a minimum of 18 inches from the heat source.<\/p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
